Expiring bail, Kejriwal rushed to the Supreme Court

Polling for the sixth phase of the ongoing seven-phase Lok Sabha elections in India has been completed. Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s interim bail period is coming to an end. In this situation, Kejriwal has applied to the Supreme Court to extend the bail period.
NDTV reported this information in a report on Monday (May 27).

According to the report, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal got interim bail till June 1. Accordingly, after the bail, Kejriwal will have to return to jail on June 2. Before that, Kejriwal applied for extension of bail on Monday.

According to the Indian press, Kejriwal applied to the Supreme Court on Monday to extend the bail period. He applied for extension of interim bail for seven days. He applied for extending the bail period mainly citing physical illness.

Kejriwal said that he needs multiple medical tests. PET scan, CT scan should be done.

The Chief Minister of Delhi said that he lost 7 kg weight while in jail. Ketone levels are also elevated. For this, some more time is required on the advice of doctors. The Chief Minister’s Legal Council informed the court that Kejriwal’s health needs to be examined.

Incidentally, Kejriwal’s bail is going to expire on June 1. Then on June 2 he has to surrender. And from there he has to go back to jail.

It should be noted that on March 21, Kejriwal was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the investigating agency of the Union Ministry of Finance, on charges of corruption in the Excise case. Later he was sent to Tihar Jail.

However, the Chief Minister of Delhi filed a case in the Supreme Court opposing the ED’s arrest. His lawyers claimed that Kejri was sent to jail deliberately to prevent him from campaigning.

On the basis of that application, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Kejriwal on May 10.
