Flood-hit Assam, 84 dead

The north-eastern state of India has been devastated by the second round of floods after Cyclone Remal, which brought Ban in Assam at the end of May, did not subside. Even after a long time, there is no sign of improvement in the flood situation there. Media ANI said that 84 people have died in the flood.

According to the country’s authorities, about 1.4 million people have been affected by the floods in the state. The situation has deteriorated the most in Kachar, Barpeta, Kamrup, Nagaon, Dhubri and Viswanath districts of the state. Among them, the worst situation is in Dhubri district, where the number of flood victims is 241 thousand 186. Next is Cachar, where 1 lakh 60 thousand 889 people are suffering from fever and in Darang this number is 1 lakh 8 thousand 125 people.

Currently there are 41 thousand 596 people in 189 shelters. Apart from this, 72 thousand 847 people are being given food in 110 shelters.

The state government said relief is being provided to the affected areas. However, due to adverse conditions, it is becoming increasingly difficult to send aid to the distressed people.
