Flood situation in Assam is dire, 35 dead

The flood situation in India’s northeastern state of Assam has taken a dire shape. As the waters of Brahmaputra and several other rivers flowed over Vipatseema, severe floods occurred in Assam. About 11.5 million people in 28 districts have been affected by flood water so far. 3 new deaths have occurred in the state in the last 24 hours. The total number of dead has increased to 38.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) flood report, two people died in Tinsukia district on July 2. Another person died in Dhemaji district. With this, Assam has been hit by floods for the second time in a month.

It is known that besides the Brahmaputra, Subansiri, Dikhou, Disang, Buridihing, Jia-Varali, Beki and Kushiara rivers flow over the Vipatseema.

The flood situation in the state worsened on Tuesday. More than 11 lakh 34 thousand people in 28 districts have been affected by the flood. In the meantime, about 287 thousand people have been evacuated to 489 shelters. Many of the flood victims have taken shelter on high ground, school buildings, roads and even bridges as the flood water entered their homes.

According to the ASDMA flood report, 74 roads, 6 bridges and 14 embankments were damaged and 5 more embankments were breached by floodwaters on Tuesday. 42 thousand 476.18 hectares of cropland has been submerged in flood water. Besides, 8 lakh 32 thousand 99 animals were also affected by the flood.
