Incessant rains have caused severe flooding in India. At least 10 people have died in the last 24 hours due to flood water in the country’s Uttar Pradesh.
According to Uttar Pradesh administration sources, extreme suffering has started in Himachal Pradesh before the onset of monsoon season. Three people died in Moradabad district, three in Gorakhpur, and one each in Pilvit, Lalitpur, Ghazipur and Itah districts of the state due to drowning in flood waters. Floods are the main causes of floods due to heavy rains and hill-slides in the Ganga and its associated rivers.
A notification from the Relief Commissioner’s office of the Uttar Pradesh state government has informed that at the moment more than two lakh people have been affected by floods in 601 villages in 23 districts including Lakhimpur Kheri, Kushinagar, Shahjahanpur, Barabanki, Siddharthnagar, Ballia, Gorakhpur, Unnao, Deuria. 1,101 shelter camps have been set up across the state under government initiative for flood victims.
Relief Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar said that 2,135 medical teams have already been sent to the flood-hit villages. 14 teams of National and State Disaster Response Force are carrying out rescue operations to evacuate the water trapped people to safe places. Rescue operations are underway in 2,838 boats.
