Imran Khan in fear of a new case two days after getting bail!

The federal government has challenged in the Supreme Court the verdict quashing the sentence of former Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

On Thursday, the prosecution decided to appeal against their acquittal in the case of leaking state secrets. Pakistani media Dawn reported this news.

In January, a special court set up under the Official Secrets Act convicted the former prime minister and foreign minister in the case. Judge Abul Hasnat Zulkarnain sentenced each of them to 10 years in prison. They appealed against the verdict.
Then, last week, Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Amer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb acquitted both of them in the case.

In a press conference, Prime Minister’s Legal Spokesperson Barrister Aqeel Malik said that the prosecution has decided to appeal against the verdict of the Islamabad High Court.

The prosecution argued that the Official Secrets Act of 1923 did not provide for an appeal against the verdict of a special court judge.
