Hanafi: Islamic Emirate Engages with World Within Sharia Framework

Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, the acting Minister of Vice and Virtue, criticized UNAMA and other organizations for their stance against the ratification of the Law on Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, during a meeting in Sar-e-Pul province.

In this meeting, attended by local officials, religious scholars, tribal elders, and Islamic Emirate enforcers, Hanafi dismissed the statements made by UNAMA and other organizations as insignificant. He stressed that the Islamic Emirate only engages with the world within the framework of Islamic laws.

According to Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, the hijab and the implementation of Islamic punishments are “red lines,” and no one’s orders in this regard will be accepted.

The acting Minister of Vice and Virtue said: “If the Islamic Emirate interacts with the world, it does so according to the framework of Sharia. It will not act against the framework of Sharia, God willing. Our goal is a system based on Islamic Sharia.”

Hanafi has asked the enforcers of the Ministry of Vice and Virtue to implement the newly ratified law by the leader of the Islamic Emirate.

Meanwhile, local officials and some religious scholars in this meeting also highlighted the implementation of the newly ratified law of this ministry, good conduct with people, and non-interference by human rights organizations in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.

Mohammad Zarif Muzafar, the governor of Sar-e-Pul, said at the meeting: “Fifty percent of your duty is what is assigned to you by the system or your relevant department; but the other fifty percent and the main part of your duty is how you treat people.”

Abdul Manan Hashim, head of the Sar-e-Pul Ulema Council, said at the meeting: “The Afghan woman and the Afghan girl, whom we provide for and take care of their honor and dignity, are not represented by the United Nations and human rights organizations, nor are they our friends.”

The acting Minister of Vice and Virtue stressed the implementation of the newly ratified law while the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in a statement called for clarification on some of the articles and proposed implementations of this law.
