Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s security in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail is costing Tk 12 lakh a month.
This information has been given in the report filed by the jail authorities in the Lahore High Court.
According to the report submitted by the Jail Superintendent, the special facilities provided to Imran in the jail include the installation of a separate CCTV camera system at a cost of Rs 5 lakh, separate from the system that monitors the other 7,000 inmates of the jail.
Imran Khan’s food is prepared in a designated kitchen under the watchful eye of the Assistant Superintendent and inspected by a Medical Officer or Deputy Superintendent before serving.
A team of more than six doctors from Holy Family Hospital has been deployed to provide medical care to the former prime minister, with additional specialist teams conducting regular check-ups.
Khan is in two of the seven special rooms available, while the other five are kept closed for security reasons. Normally, 35 prisoners are kept in this cell. Access to Imran Khan’s room is strictly restricted, entry requires permission and professionally trained staff are employed to ensure the security of his ward.
While Adiala Jail usually employs one staff member for every ten inmates, Khan has 15 staff members deployed for his security, including two security officers and three dedicated to his personal security.
Besides, a specific area within the jail premises has been allocated for Imran Khan to walk, with exercise machines and other facilities. There are strict regulations for visitors and extensive security protocols are being followed during court proceedings.
