Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan is going to apply for the post of Chancellor of Oxford University from jail.

PTI chief’s International Media Advisor Syed Zulfi Bukhari confirmed the matter.

Bukhari said that Imran Khan is going to be a candidate for the post of Chancellor of Oxford in view of the demands of the people.

“We will make a public announcement about this only after we get the permission from the PTI chief and start campaigning for signatures for it,” he said.

This information was informed in a report of the Telegraph on Thursday.

According to reports, the post of chancellor of Oxford University has become vacant following the resignation of 80-year-old Lord Patten. He recently resigned after 21 years in office.

Oxford University authorities describe the position of chancellor as the ceremonial head of the institution. Usually they elect a prominent person to this post for life. Who presides over the major functions of the university.

Meanwhile, Oxford authorities said that the selection process of the institution’s new chancellor will be conducted online for the first time. 3.5 lakh former students who have participated in the convocation of the university so far are going to fight in the process.

Imran Khan is currently in jail on charges of inciting protests and violence against the military in May last year. However, he denied the allegations. The PTI founder is currently serving a 10-year jail term.

In a recent interview from jail, he said, ‘I am in a 7 feet by 4 feet death cell, where terrorists are usually kept. People voted for me because they are fed up with the current system and the way Pakistan is being run.

Imran Khan studied economics and politics at Keble College, Oxford in 1972. He was also the captain of the university’s cricket team.

Pakistan’s first World Cup-winning captain made his Test debut for the country in 1972 and served as Chancellor of Bradford University for 10 years from 2005 to 2014.
