Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi acquitted from illegal marriage case
Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Khan have been acquitted by a court of the country in illegal marriage case or Iddat case. PTI and Imran Khan’s lawyer confirmed this information.
On Saturday (July 13), Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Afzal Majoka of Pakistan’s capital Islamabad delivered the verdict acquitting the Imran couple.
The Pakistani court said, “If there is no arrest warrant against them in any other case, then Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi should be released (from jail) immediately.”
The couple was sentenced to seven years in jail in the illegal marriage case ahead of Pakistan’s elections in February this year. At that time, the court ruled that Imran Khan’s marriage to spiritual mentor Bushra Bibi in 2018 was un-Islamic and illegal.
The former Pakistan cricket captain and current politician was removed from the post of Prime Minister in 2022.
