Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and the founding chairman of PTI, was jailed for 10 years last January in the case of smuggling the country’s secret information. The former cricketer is currently in Adiala jail in that case. However, his lawyer Intezar Panjutha said that Imran Khan will be released soon.
According to the Pakistani press Ekpress Tribune, new members of his family met Imran Khan in jail on Tuesday. Lawyer Panjutha went with them at that time. Later, he told reporters that Imran is in jail for the sake of the nation. He steadfastly refused to make any deal contrary to his principles. Soon will be acquitted of all pending cases and freed from imprisonment.
In 1971, Imran Khan criticized the then army officers by referring to the Bangladesh-Pakistan war. Panjutha said, “According to the report of the Hamudur Rahman Commission, the former prime minister has criticized the handling of the events of 1971. He said, “The report mentioned that only one man ‘showed incompetence’ during the battle and the rest of the army fought well.”
Imran Khan also exposed the ‘Dubai Leaks’ against the assets of current Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his wife while he was out of jail. Imran Khan also raised questions about his luxurious lifestyle when the country’s economy is struggling.
The PTI-backed former president of Pakistan Arif Alvi criticized the imprisonment of the party chief and former prime minister as a lack of accountability in the country.
He said that as a result of the change in the regime, the country has spent billions of rupees, but there is no accountability of those responsible. The entire elite is the biggest obstacle to the issue of accountability. People also believe that there is no justice in Pakistan.
