Imprisoned former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has submitted his application to contest for the post of Chancellor of Oxford University. This information was informed by his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday.

On this day PTI leader Zulfikar Bukhari said in a post given on the X handle that his application form has been submitted for the election of Chancellor of Oxford University 2024 as per the instructions of Imran Khan. We look forward to everyone’s support for a historic campaign.

Pakistan’s World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan is an alumnus of Oxford University. The former Pakistan cricketer studied economics and politics at Keble College, Oxford in 1972. He was also the captain of the university’s cricket team.

He served as Chancellor of the University of Bradford, UK from 2005 to 2014. He is currently lodged in a jail in the northeastern garrison city of Rawalpindi. He has been detained in several cases including corruption and incitement to violence.

He was convicted in two of the cases and the third was stayed by the court. However, the PTI founder has been denying these allegations.

The 72-year-old former prime minister was ousted by a no-confidence vote in April 2022, more than a year before the end of her five-year term. Since then he has been imprisoned.

According to a report in the Telegraph, the post of chancellor of Oxford University has become vacant after the resignation of 80-year-old Lord Patten. He recently resigned after 21 years in office.

Oxford University authorities describe the position of chancellor as a ceremonial head of the institution. Usually they elect a prominent person to this post for life. Who presides over the major functions of the university.

Meanwhile, Oxford authorities said that the selection process of the institution’s new chancellor will be conducted online for the first time. 3.5 lakh former students who have participated in the convocation of the university so far are going to fight in the process.
