Imran Khan was acquitted in two more cases

Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was acquitted in two other cases.

On Thursday, a district and sessions court in Islamabad acquitted him of two cases of violence on May 9 last year.

Judicial Magistrate Omar Shabbir allowed the petition filed challenging the two cases against Imran Khan in Shehzad Town police station. In the judgment, the judge said, “The PTI founder was acquitted as the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence.”

Earlier, Imran Khan was acquitted on May 15 from two cases filed on charges of vandalism in the May 9 incident last year. Judicial Magistrate Sahib Bilal acquitted Imran from those two cases filed at Khanna police station in Islamabad.

Violent protests spread across the country after the arrest of Imran Khan on May 9 last year. At this time, various military installations were also attacked. Several cases were filed against PTI leaders including Imran on various charges in connection with the violence.

Meanwhile, on May 20, Imran Khan and the leaders of his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were acquitted of two cases of violence. Two years ago, Imran Khan and his party leaders were booked by the police on charges of violence, rioting, disrupting public services and mischief with fire or explosives during the May 25 ‘Azadi March’ protests.

It is to be noted that after losing the no-confidence motion brought in the Parliament in April 2022 and being ousted from power, hundreds of cases including corruption were filed against Imran Khan. He is currently lodged in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.
