Imran Khan's wife got bail in corruption case

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi has been granted interim bail in a corruption case.

He was granted bail by a special court in Rawalpindi on Tuesday (July 2).

Imran Khan has been in jail since last August after being convicted in several cases before the general elections in February this year.

A UN working group on human rights said Imran Khan’s arbitrary prison sentence violated international law.

Referring to the interim bail in a post on social media, ARY News said, “Bushra Bibi has been granted bail by the Special Accountability Court of Rawalpindi.”

However, both Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have claimed that the case filed against them for taking illegal money from the land acquirer for setting up Al Qadir University is false. They have denied the allegation of helping in land acquisition in exchange of money.

There is no possibility of Bushra Bibi’s release even if she gets bail in the corruption case. Because she is serving a prison sentence after being found guilty in a case filed claiming her marriage with Imran Khan was illegal.

Imran Khan and his political party Tehreek-e-Insaf Pakistan (PTI) have said that these politically motivated cases have been filed to prevent the former prime minister from returning to power.

In the past few months, Pakistani courts have suspended the imprisonment of Imran Khan in two cases filed on charges of leaking state secrets and illegally stealing and selling state gifts from the treasury. However, the former Pakistani cricket superstar is fighting dozens of other cases.
