Imran’s party PTI has called for protests across Pakistan
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has called for nationwide protests on Friday. The protest was called to protest the arrest of some of the party’s top leaders and parliamentarians.
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raza, Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan and former NA Speaker Asad Qaiser gave this call in a press conference.
Earlier, on Sunday (September 8), the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf PTI held a large rally on the outskirts of the capital Islamabad to demand the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The activists demanded immediate release of Imran Khan from that rally. It was the PTI’s first show of strength since the disputed elections last February.
A day after that on Monday (September 9) the police arrested some top leaders including the PTI chairman. After the session of Parliament, some MPs of the party were also detained. However, in the face of strong criticism, some were released on Tuesday.
However, the country’s political analysts are worried that such actions may create a conflict situation in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, even if the leaders are arrested or harassed, PTI will not back down from the anti-government movement. PTI leader Salman Akram Raja said this in response to a question from journalists. The party is planning to hold a massive rally in Lahore this month.
On April 10, 2022, Imran Khan lost the Prime Ministership in a no-confidence vote. Since then one case after another was filed against him. The most popular prime minister in Pakistan’s history has been in jail for more than a year.
