India formed a committee for the security of minorities in Bangladesh

After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, the central government of India has formed a committee to monitor the incidents of violence against minorities in Bangladesh. This committee will work to ensure the safety of various minority communities and Indians staying in Bangladesh.

Several media reports including Indian media NDTV reported this news.

The Government of India has said that the Government of India has constituted a committee to monitor the current situation along the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB). The committee will maintain contact with the authorities in Bangladesh to ensure the safety of Indian nationals and minority communities in Bangladesh.

The committee will be headed by ADG Border Security Force (BSF) Eastern Command, IG BSF Frontier HQ South Bengal, IG BSF Frontier HQ Tripura, Land Port Authority of India (LPAI) Member (Planning and Development) and LPAI Secretary.

Earlier on Thursday, Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus was sworn in as the chief adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh. She has promised to bring democracy back to the country after the student uprising ended Sheikh Hasina’s 15-year rule.

After a few weeks of violence in Bangladesh, 455 people were killed. Yunus returned to Dhaka from Europe. He urged the countrymen to protect each other including the minorities to restore peace and order.

He said, restoring law and order is our first task…unless we fix the law and order situation, we will not be able to move forward.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh, and called for safety and security of the country’s Hindu and other minority communities.

Prime Minister Modi wrote in X, wishing Professor Muhammad Yunus all the best on his new assignment. We hope for a speedy return to normalcy, ensuring the safety and security of Hindus and all other minority communities. India is committed to working with Bangladesh for peace, security and development of the people of both countries.

Meanwhile, BSF has strengthened border security to prevent illegal infiltration from Bangladesh. BSF personnel of the 169th Battalion patrolling at night despite light rain in Cooch Behar’s Matabhanga.
