India-Japan agree to strengthen defense ties

India and Japan have agreed to strengthen defense ties. Both countries have agreed to strengthen not only defense but also their security relations.

The two countries announced such a decision at the “Two Plus Two” meeting in Delhi, the capital of India, on Tuesday. On this day, Japan announced cooperation in security and other fields to stabilize the Indo-Pacific region. On the other hand, India has pledged to work jointly in enhancing technology, research and industrial cooperation. This information was reported by the British media Reuters on Wednesday.

India and Japan are sitting at the negotiating table for the first time since 2022. The two countries held a ‘two plus two’ meeting to strengthen their bilateral relations on Tuesday local time. The top officials of the two countries were present at this time. They agreed to strengthen their defense and security ties. Besides, the transfer of warship communication antenna technology from Japan to India was also discussed in the meeting.

In this regard, Japan said, Tokyo will cooperate in security and other fields to stabilize the Indo-Pacific region. Where Beijing continues to strengthen its influence. Apart from continuing the joint exercises of the two countries, cooperation in the field of defense equipment was also assured.

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa said, We have agreed to amend the Joint Declaration on Security Cooperation between India and Japan in 2008. Because, cooperation between the two countries is becoming very important at the international level. We will work together in security and defense sector.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of the 10-year anniversary of the Delhi-Tokyo strategic partnership this year, India is also ready to further advance bilateral relations. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that maintaining stability in the Indo-Pacific region is the highest priority of the two countries. We discussed work possibilities in our respective security and development fields.

According to experts, Delhi and Tokyo are gradually working to improve political and economic ties to counter Chinese influence. Also participated in Quad Security Grouping of USA and Australia.
