India will once again export onions to Bangladesh

India has decided to export 99 thousand 150 metric tons of onions to 6 countries including Bangladesh. The remaining countries are – United Arab Emirates, Bhutan, Bahrain, Mauritius and Sri Lanka.

This information was known from a notification of the concerned department of the Government of India on Saturday.

The Indian agency National Co-operation Exports Limited (NCEL) has been entrusted with the export of onions. NCEL will export onions to these 6 countries with 100% advance payment and pricing through negotiation.

NCEL fixes the prices with the buyers taking into account the prices of the countries where onion is bought, international and domestic prices. And in the countries where onion export is allowed, the quota will be allocated according to the demand.

In addition, the Indian government has also approved the export of 2 thousand tons of white onion. Maharashtra is the largest producer of onions in India. The region is also going to supply maximum onion for export to NCEL this year.

As per the earlier decision of the Government of India, exports were stopped for several weeks to ensure domestic demand and supply in the country. But now the country’s officials withdrew from this decision due to the huge increase in the demand of onion in the international market.
