Indian High Commissioner meeting with Home Affairs Advisor of Bangladesh

Home Affairs Advisor of Bangladesh Lt. Gen. Prannoy Verma, Indian High Commissioner appointed to Bangladesh met with Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.).

During the meeting at the adviser’s office at the secretariat on Monday afternoon, various issues related to mutual interests were discussed between the two countries including police force, border security, safety of Indian citizens, information exchange in flood warning and forecasting.

At the beginning, the advisor welcomed the High Commissioner and said that as part of the ongoing reforms, reforms will be made in the police and other forces under the Ministry of Home Affairs. But it is still in its early stages.

In the meeting, the two sides agreed to reduce border killings to minimum or zero by enhancing border security.

When the High Commissioner sought the advisor’s assistance regarding the security of Indian students and other citizens living in Bangladesh at that time, he fully assured him in this regard.

The advisor said that there is no security threat to Indian citizens in Bangladesh. Full security will be provided by the government. He said, Indian students can come to Bangladesh and start their studies.

The home adviser said that our two countries should work together in flood warning and forecasting.

The High Commissioner said that Bangladesh will be assisted with necessary information in this regard. The High Commissioner said at this time that visas for Bangladeshi citizens have been introduced in Indian visa centers on a small scale. But it is mainly for urgent medical needs and students coming for studies.

The meeting was attended by Deputy High Commissioner of Indian Embassy Pawan Kumar Tulsi Das Barde, First Secretary (Political) Gokul VK and senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
