Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Shri Munu Mahawar has paid a courtesy call on Maldivian Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla on Thursday.

The meeting took place at the People’s Majlis building.

Speaker Abdul Raheem was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim and ruling PNC’s Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Falah.

Discussions that took place during the meeting have not been disclosed to the media.

The meeting comes after India sharply cut down outlays for Maldives under its ‘neighborhood first’ policy in the Union Budget for 2024-25.

The cut came amid strained relations between India and Maldives since the current administration assumed office in November 2023. However, the relationship has been on the mend more recently with Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu attending Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration ceremony,

Besides this, Maldivian Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer had also undertaken a visit to India to strengthen bilateral ties.
