Indian men have problems: Shashi Tharoor

Indian Congress MP and former diplomat and writer Shashi Tharoor said that ‘Indian men have a problem’.

The hashtag me-too movement has started around Kerala’s Malayalam film industry, known as India’s ‘Mollywood’. One after another actresses are telling about their bitter experiences. Actresses are talking about how they have been sexually harassed by actors, sometimes directors or producers on the sets or shooting of movies. So far 17 actresses have reported this complaint.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor called for a change in the overall attitude of Indian society in an interview given to NDTV. He is elected from Kerala.

He said there is a problem among Indian men. If there is no hope of controlling, if not eradicating, violent crime against women, it is a dire problem.

He pointed out that despite high-profile cases like the Nirbhaya tragedy in 2012 and the recent RG Kar Hospital rape and murder in 2024, there has not been enough progress to tackle these issues. He says nothing has changed in a dozen years.

He said, Indian men have not yet learned to respect women. As a result, this is happening. He also believes that it has a negative impact on women of different communities.
