Indian police gave new information about the body of Awami League leader Panna

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India. After that, many activists of Awami League fled the country. One of them is Ishtiaq Ali Khan Panna. He was killed while fleeing to India after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5. His body was recovered from Meghalaya, India.

Meghalaya Police informed this information in a press release on Thursday (August 29). News from NDTV.

According to the statement, Panna’s body was found lying near the Bangladesh border in Meghalaya.

Police sources said the post-mortem report indicated that Panna was strangulated to death. The police confirmed his identity by looking at the passport nearby.

It is being said that Ishaq Ali Khan Panna fled the country after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in the face of the mass movement of students.

Meghalaya Police said Panna’s rotting half-melted body was recovered from Bhoi, a hilly village in East Jainta, on August 26. The village is located one and a half kilometers from the India Bangladesh border. Bangladeshi passport was found with Panna’s body.

Police sources said Panna’s body is being sent for forensic analysis. The decision was taken to investigate whether he died of strangulation or heart attack. Besides, there are multiple injury marks on his body. Injuries were also found on his forehead.

This leader of Awami League was the former general secretary of Central Chhatra League. Panna was elected general secretary in the 1994 conference of Awami League’s fraternal organization Chhatra League. AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, the elected president of the conference, was alternately the organizing secretary of Awami League and MP and deputy minister of Awami League government several times, but Panna was always outside the central executive of Awami League. However, after the 2012 conference, he became the co-editor of the central sub-committee of Awami League and later became a member of various sub-committees. He was a member of Pirojpur District Awami League till his death.

Before this, Panna was nominated by Awami League from Pirojpur-2 constituency in the 2008 elections. However, he had to withdraw due to the 14-party alliance election later. This former Chhatra League leader was the chairman of insurance company Diamond Life Insurance Company Limited in his professional life.
