India's new foreign secretary is Vikram Misri

Vikram Misri has been appointed as India’s new foreign secretary. He was the Ambassador of India to China. Misri will replace current Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra. He will take charge on July 15. News from India Today and Hindustan Times.

It is known that Misri is a 1989 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer. He currently holds the post of Deputy National Security Advisor. Vinay Quatra’s term will end on July 14. He will then take over as the Foreign Secretary of India.

Misri was born in 1964 in Srinagar, Kashmir. However, he studied in Gwalior as a child. Graduated in History from Hindu College. Then did MBA. There have been three private secretaries to Indian Prime Ministers – Indrakumar Gujral (1997), Manmohan Singh (2012 to 2014) and Narendra Modi (May to July 2014).

Misri was also India’s ambassador to several countries. He was the Ambassador of India to Spain from 2014 to 2016. Then in Myanmar from 2016 to 2018. Misri was India’s ambassador to China from 2019 to 2021, when the India-China standoff along the Line of Actual Control along the eastern Ladakh border peaked.

He played a key role in the negotiations between New Delhi and Beijing during the Galwan conflict in June 2020. Besides, Misri also held several important duties in Belgium, Pakistan, America, Sri Lanka and Germany.
