IOM Director General is in Dhaka on a 5-day visit, the issue will gain importance

Amy Pope, Director General of the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) has arrived in Bangladesh on a five-day visit. He was welcomed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Sunday morning by the head of IOM Bangladesh, Abdus Sattar Isov and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Immigration and Rohingya issue will be important in Pope’s visit. He brought more than a dozen donors to see the Rohingya situation. After reaching Dhaka on a 5-day visit, the IOM Director General took them to the Rohingya camp at noon. Before leaving, he met the United Nations Resident Representative in Gulshan in the morning. Apart from visiting various activities of Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar on Monday, he will participate in several meetings. Will return to Dhaka later in the night.
IOM Director General will have a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina tomorrow Tuesday morning. After noon, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He will have a meeting with Hasan Mahmud. Before this meeting, Bangladesh will release the 2024 annual report on global migration. Also attend a discussion on future immigration.

Apart from the Minister, IOM Director General Amy Pope will meet with UK’s Indo-Pacific Strategy Minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan. Apart from this, he will visit the immigration training center, collect funds and participate in several meetings on immigration.

It is known that the heads of various organizations of the United Nations will visit Dhaka on the occasion of 50 years of relations. The visit begins with IOM Director General Amy Pope.

Diplomatic sources say that the executive director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) will visit Dhaka in the middle of this month. Natalia Kanem. Apart from this, International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka at the end of this month.
