Kejriwal bailed, released after 6 months
Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi and Aam Aadmi Party leader, has been granted bail in the excise corruption case.
The Supreme Court granted bail to the Delhi Chief Minister on Friday (September 13). He was earlier granted interim bail in the ED case. Bail was also granted in the CBI case.
Kejriwal appealed to the Supreme Court challenging the CBI’s arrest in the excise case. He first approached the Delhi High Court seeking bail. Later the case went to the Supreme Court.
On September 5, the hearing ended in the Supreme Court. Judgment was then stayed. The verdict was announced on Friday.
On March 21, Kejriwal was arrested by the ED in the excise corruption case. Later CBI also arrested him. Kejriwal did not resign from the post of Chief Minister of Delhi before his arrest. As a result, he became the first Chief Minister of the country, who was arrested while in office.
The Aam Aadmi Party leader was released on parole for a few days by the Supreme Court to campaign for the party during the Lok Sabha elections. Later again he surrendered at Tihar.
Kejriwal is being released from jail after six months. Earlier, he was granted interim bail in the ED case but was not released from jail. Because the CBI case was still pending. He was granted bail in both cases.
