Lahore High Court got first woman judge

Justice Alia Neelam has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Lahore, the capital of Pakistan’s Punjab province. By her appointment, this is the first time that a woman has been appointed Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court.

On Tuesday, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), an organization under the Ministry of Law and Justice, decided to appoint Alia Neelam as the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court.

Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa presided over the meeting. Alia Neelam’s name was proposed by Qazi Faiz Isa himself in the meeting. As there was no other candidate more qualified than him, the other members of the JCP accepted this proposal of the Chief Justice.

Justice Alia Neelam was born in Punjab on November 12, 1966. After passing LLB from Punjab University in 1995, he started his professional career as a lawyer of Lahore High Court.

Justice Alia was enrolled as an advocate of the Supreme Court in 2008. After spending a few years there, he rejoined the Lahore High Court in 2013 as a junior judge.

Alia Neelam is third in the list of senior judges of the Lahore High Court. In front of him, Justice Malik Shehzad Ahmed Khan and Justice Shaheed Bilal Hasan are ranked first and second respectively. Both were recently elevated as judges of the Supreme Court. Before Alia, the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court was Malik Shehzad Ahmed Khan.
