Leader of Opposition nominated Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi has been nominated as the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha. In this regard, a resolution was passed in the meeting of the working committee of the Congress. The party members consider Rahul as the best candidate to fight against Modi. But Rahul Gandhi said, he will think about it.

The Congress Working Committee on Saturday passed a resolution requesting Rahul Gandhi to take up the role of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, NDTV reported. Rahul Gandhi is being credited for the party’s victory in 99 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. If Rahul agrees to take this responsibility, he will become the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha after a decade.

In the Lok Sabha elections, the former Congress president was elected from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh and Venad in Kerala with huge votes. Hindustan Times reported that if there was a proposal to make Rahul the leader of the opposition in the CWC meeting, he said that he would think about it. Then Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge reminded him that the CWC had passed a resolution in this regard.

He should accept the post. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said after the meeting, “In a separate resolution, the CWC has unanimously requested Rahul Gandhi to take over as the leader of the opposition.” Everyone who participated in the meeting agreed that Rahul Gandhi should be the Leader of the Opposition. In the last two elections in 2014 and 2019, there was no Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha due to lack of required seats. To get the status of the opposition party, it has to win at least 10 percent of the 543 seats. Neither the Congress nor any other party got it in the last two terms. In this year’s Lok Sabha elections, Congress has advanced not only individually but also in alliance.

Congress-led India Alliance has captured 233 seats; Whereas in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the then Congress-led UPA alliance won less than 100 seats. In 2019, Congress got 52 seats, this time it won 99 seats. The party won 29 percent seats in a head-to-head battle against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This time Congress is getting the status of the main opposition party by winning 99 seats.
