Militant attack on police headquarters in Pakistan, 6 killed including police
At least three police officers were killed in a militant attack on police headquarters in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Three attackers were later killed in a police counter-attack.
The casualties occurred when militants attacked the police headquarters and residential complex in Bannu district on Monday.
Police sources said their operation is still ongoing and the suicide bombers are trapped inside the building.
The source added, on condition of anonymity, that three policemen were killed in the attack, who sacrificed their lives to prevent the attack.
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack. A spokesperson of TTP confirmed this news.
Police said security forces are conducting operations to nab the attackers and roads in the area have been cordoned off. Bannu district is located next to the hot North Waziristan district on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
Meanwhile, strict security arrangements have been made for the arrival of Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
