Modi, Giorgia Meloni agree to boost strategic ties

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Brazil.

Modi is currently in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to attend the 19th G-20 Summit. There, Modi held a bilateral meeting with several state leaders including Meloni.

According to reports, Modi has already held meetings with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron. Meanwhile, Modi also held a bilateral meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Storr. Apart from this, Modi also held meetings with the heads of state of Indonesia and Portugal.

Meanwhile, Modi wrote on social media about his meeting with the Italian Prime Minister, “Delighted to meet Prime Minister Georgia Meloni on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro.” Discussions were held with Georgia Meloni on strengthening ties in defense, security, trade and technology. We also discussed ways to enhance cooperation in culture, education and other such areas. India-Italy alliance can contribute greatly to make this world a better planet.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on social media platform X that Prime Minister Modi has assured Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto of expanding India-Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership. Meanwhile, talks were held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Macron on working closely in the space and energy sectors, the External Affairs Ministry said. Besides, Modi and Macron talked about the two countries working together on AI. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister praised the President of France for the successful organization of the Olympics and Paralympics in Paris this year.

In a post, Modi said, ‘It is always a pleasure to meet my friend President Emmanuel Macron. We discussed how India and France can continue to work more closely in space, energy, artificial intelligence and other such areas. Our two countries will work closely to increase communication between the people of the two countries. Meanwhile, after the British Prime Minister’s bilateral meeting with Modi, a Downing Street statement quoted Starmer as saying, ‘A new trade deal with India will boost jobs in Britain and help the country prosper. In this, our country will take a step forward in the goal of providing growth and opportunities.’
