However, on 31 August, Indian Foreign Office spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal claimed that the two leaders had “detailed discussions” on the recent political changes in Bangladesh.
This time, the Indian media NDTV reported that the security of the people of Bangladesh and the future of democracy were discussed in the phone conversation between Modi and Biden. They reported this information on Thursday, citing White House National Security Adviser John Kirby.
According to the media, in a press conference on Wednesday, John Kirby said that during the telephone conversation, President Biden and Prime Minister Modi “expressed concern” about the ongoing situation in Bangladesh.
“I mean, the president (Biden) has made clear his continued concern about the security of the people of Bangladesh and the future of their democratic institutions,” the US national security adviser said.
Incidentally, on August 5, Sheikh Hasina left the country and fled to India after being ousted in the face of intense mass protests by students. This former Prime Minister of Bangladesh is currently in India.
