Pakistan announced state mourning over Raisi's death

Pakistan has announced a one-day state mourning after the death of Iran’s President Ibrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian, along with 9 passengers, in a helicopter crash.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the mourning on Monday (May 20) by posting on social media X. In the post on X, he said, “I and the government and people of Pakistan express our deepest condolences and sympathies to the Iranian nation for this terrible loss.” May the souls of the martyrs rest in peace. The great Iranian nation will overcome this tragedy only through its traditional courage.

He also said that less than a month ago, President Raisi and Foreign Minister Hussain Amir-Abdollahian visited Pakistan on a historic visit. They were good friends of Pakistan.

The wreckage of the helicopter carrying Ibrahim Raisi was found about 16 hours after the crash. However, President Raisi, the country’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and East Azerbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati are no longer alive.
