Pakistan China and India war of words again over Kashmir

Pakistan again rejected India’s statement on Jammu and Kashmir. After the meeting between Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese Premier Li Qiang on June 8, Pakistan-China issued a joint statement on Jammu and Kashmir.

India has criticized the matter as ‘unwanted’. In response, Pakistan’s foreign ministry said, “It is a proven fact that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory.” The dispute has been on the agenda of the UN Security Council for more than seven decades.

The relevant resolutions of the Security Council clearly state that the final settlement of the State of Jammu and Kashmir shall be in accordance with the will of the people as expressed through the democratic process of a free and fair referendum conducted under the auspices of the United Nations. In that context India’s claim on Jammu and Kashmir is completely baseless and wrong.

Earlier last week, criticizing projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), New Delhi rejected any move to legitimize Islamabad’s illegal occupation.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have noticed the unwanted mention of Jammu and Kashmir in the joint statement of China and Pakistan.” We expressly reject such references. The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Territory of Ladakh were, are and shall remain an integral and integral part of India.
