Pilgrim bus falls 150 feet in Jammu, 21 killed

At least 21 people were killed when a bus carrying pilgrims fell into a ditch in Jammu, India. At least 47 people were injured in this incident. Many of them are in serious condition.

The accident took place at Akhnoor area of ​​Jammu district at 12:35 PM local time on Thursday.

It is learned that the bus started from Uttar Pradesh and was carrying devotees from Kurukshetra in Haryana to Shiv Khori in Pouni area of ​​Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir. It fell off the Jammu-Rajouri highway at Tungi-Mode Poonch area of ​​Chowki Chora belt in Jammu district and fell into a ditch about 150 feet below.

The injured passengers said that the accident took place when the bus driver was crossing a curve on the highway when a speeding car came from the opposite direction.

Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the accident after visiting the scene. He also said that the rescue operation is going on.

A police spokesperson said that 7 of the injured have been admitted to Akhnur Hospital and 40 have been admitted to Jammu Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital.
