PTI against Imran's decision to resign as Secretary General

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General and Member of Parliament Omar Ayub Khan has resigned. PTI founding chairman Imran Khan also accepted his resignation letter. However, other members of the party could not accept this decision of the former prime minister.

Officials of the party’s parliamentary wing expressed disagreement over Imran Khan’s decision on the Omar issue in a meeting at the country’s parliament building on Friday.

They also demanded to change his decision on Omar Ayub Khan and reinstate him.

At the same time, they unanimously expressed full confidence in Omar Ayub Khan as the General Secretary of PTI.

Earlier, jailed PTI founding chairman Imran Khan accepted the resignation of leader of the opposition in the Pakistan National Assembly Omar and supported his decision to step down from the party position.

Within 24 hours, the officials of the parliamentary wing of the party made that demand.

The parliamentary party has unanimously decided that the resignation of Omar Ayub Khan will not be accepted and he may be directed to continue as the party’s general secretary, an official statement said.

In such a context, Pakistani media claim, there is confusion in PTI regarding Omar’s resignation. On the one hand, they have announced to hold a rally for the release of the party chief. The General Secretary, on the other hand, has given up important party posts, so that he can concentrate on parliamentary affairs.

Earlier on Thursday late night, Omar Ayub Khan resigned from the party post to focus on his role as the leader of the opposition in the Parliament.

In a post shared on the X handle, he said, “I am resigning from the post of PTI Secretary General to focus on my role as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan.” I am most grateful to Prime Minister Imran Khan for accepting my resignation.

Earlier in a letter addressed to Imran Khan, Omar Ayub expressed his gratitude for accepting his resignation. He said, “I have sent my resignation letter to PTI founder and chairman Barrister Gohar Ali on June 22. ‘

It is known that Senator Shibli Faraz, the leader of the opposition in the Senate of Pakistan, delivered Omar’s letter to Imran Khan, who was imprisoned in Adiala Jail on June 27. Source: The Express Tribune
