PTI hopes to return to power after the Supreme Court verdict

The Supreme Court of Pakistan stayed the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) decision to grant reserved seats to other parties on a petition filed by the Sunni Ittehad Council.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court heard the Sunni Ittehad Council’s reserved seat petition on Monday.

Lawyer Faisal Siddiqui told the court that independent PTI members had joined the Sunni Ittehad Council.

Then Justice Mansoor Ali Shah wants to know whether the seven candidates are still part of the National Assembly as independent?

Justice Athar Minallah wants to know whether PTI is a registered political party. Faisal Siddiqui said PTI is a registered political party.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court’s decision to stay the Peshawar High Court (PHC) verdict on reserved seats in the Sunni Ittehad Council has revived Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) hopes of returning to power.

PTI leader Asad Qaiser welcomed the Supreme Court verdict at a press conference accompanied by Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) chief Mahmud Khan Achakzai in Islamabad on Monday.

He commented that PTI will come to power soon if the court continues such verdict.

In April 2022, the PTI-led government fell through a no-confidence motion by the opposition. However, the party founded by Imran Khan alleged that they were ousted as a result of the US conspiracy in collusion with the then opposition parties.

Earlier today, a three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah accepted a petition by the PTI-backed SIC against the High Court’s verdict that deprived the party of its quota of reserved seats in the Assembly based on party strength.

Banning members sworn in on reserved seats from voting on the law, the Supreme Court said the case will be heard every day from June 3.
