Red carpet reception for Iranian President in Pakistan

Pakistan gave a red carpet reception to Iranian President Syed Ibrahim Raisi. He arrived in Islamabad on Monday morning as part of a three-day visit to Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Iran’s president will lead a high-ranking political and economic delegation on the visit, Geo News reported.

This is the first visit of a foreign leader to Pakistan after the February 8 elections. Raisi’s visit to Pakistan will be closely monitored by the United States amid tensions between Iran and Israel.

However, sources told Geo News that the visit has nothing to do with the ongoing tension.

According to reports, President Raisi will hold a private meeting with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif during his two-day state visit to Pakistan, after which the two heads of government will address a joint press conference.

President Raisi will also hold talks with Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad. He will visit various cities of Pakistan and meet and exchange views with leading scholars of the country as well as businessmen and industrialists.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that during President Raisi’s visit, the officials of the two countries will exchange views on the regional and international situation as well as bilateral cooperation and discuss ways to deal with the joint threat of terrorism.

The Iranian president will visit Islamabad as well as major cities of Pakistan including Lahore and Karachi, the statement said.
