Rolwaling sees surge in tourist arrivals as trekking season kicks off

Rolwaling Valley in Dolakha is experiencing a notable increase in both domestic and foreign visitors. Previously a popular spot for foreign trekkers due to its challenging trails and breathtaking landscapes, the area is now drawing more attention from Nepali tourists, particularly during the current trekking season.
Tsho Rolpa Glacial Lake, situated at an altitude of 4,580 metres, has become a favourite among young adventurers. The lake, with its captivating views and high-altitude allure, has turned into a hotspot for trekkers. Suman Tamang, a recent visitor, shared that his trek through Rolwaling during the Dashain festival gave him the opportunity to explore both the grandeur of the Himalayas and the rich mountain culture.
Local hotel businesses, especially in Beding and along the trekking route, are flourishing, with daily visitor numbers ranging from 25 to 50. After recent floods destroyed eight hotels and two bridges, there were fears of a decline in tourism. However, the rise in tourist activity this season has brought renewed hope, with hotel owners now catering to both domestic and foreign guests.
The trek through Rolwaling typically spans five to seven days, with popular stopovers at Tsho Rolpa and Dudh Kunda. Additionally, the area serves as a gateway for mountaineering expeditions, attracting trekkers heading towards peaks such as Yalung Ri and Ramdung.
According to the Gaurishankar Conservation Area, over 400 international trekkers have visited Rolwaling since the beginning of the season.
