Security has been tightened at the Israeli embassy in Delhi in connection with Haniya's murder

Delhi Police has reviewed the security of the Israeli Embassy and Chabad House following the intelligence agency’s alert over the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya in Tehran.

On Wednesday morning (July 31), Haniya and his bodyguard were killed in a missile attack targeting the location of Hamas chief Ismail Haniya in a building in Tehran.

Haniya was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected president of Iran.

Multiple sources told news agency PTI that the senior officials of the intelligence agencies held a meeting and planned to take extensive security around two Israeli buildings in the capital Delhi.

A senior official said, in the meantime, several CCTV cameras have been installed around the two buildings as well as multi-level security measures have been taken.

Officials also said that more personnel may be deployed if required.

A statement was issued by the Delhi Police after rumors of an explosion near the Israeli embassy spread in a post on social media on Thursday (August 1).

In a statement, the Delhi Police clarified that the news of the explosion was not true. The post was later deleted.

In the past three years, there have been two explosions near the Israeli embassy in the capital. However, no one was injured in those two attacks.

Earlier, security around the Israeli embassy was tightened after fighting between Israel and Hamas broke out on October 7 last year.
