Sikkim High Court orders special leave every month for women

India’s Sikkim High Court has decided to give ‘certain days’ of leave every month to working women. Women employees can now get two to three days of monthly leave a month.

Sikkim High Court to give seasonal leave to women employees. In a notification on May 27, the Sikkim High Court said that women workers can take seasonal leave for two to three days a month.

The notification in this regard was issued on Tuesday after getting the approval of the Chief Justice of the High Court, Biswanath Somaddar. As a result, women employees of the High Court Registry will now be able to take two to three days of monthly leave in a month.

But they should first contact the Medical Officer attached to the High Court. A letter of recommendation should then be obtained for such leave. After that only leave will be granted.

The notification also states that, ‘Taking such leave will not affect your total leave count.’

Why such a sudden decision?
Women are physically and mentally exhausted during their periods. They are not interested in work. There is also a tendency for women to take two or three days off every month.

While the ‘Right of Women’s Menstrual Leave and Free Access to Menstrual Health Products’ Bill of 2022 did not help women in that way, the Bihar and Kerala governments in the country besides Sikkim have provided monthly menstrual leave for women workers.
