About 300 senior cabin crew called in at the last minute to say they were sick. Then they hung up the phone. At least 85 domestic and international flights of Air India Express have been canceled due to manpower crunch as crews took leave in such mass.
Sources said the crew are angry over the new employment rules of the Tata Group-owned airline and are protesting against it. However, the authorities of the airline are trying to communicate with them.
An Air India Express spokesperson said several cabin crews reported illness at the last minute. This is causing flight cancellations and delays. We are contacting the crew and trying to find out the real reason.
After this incident, several passengers expressed their anger on social media. Said that the flight was canceled without any prior announcement.
The spokesperson said, we apologize to the passengers for such an incident. Because this is not our type of service.
The airline said victims would be given a full refund or rescheduled.
