Tempo Traveler falls off road into river, 14 killed

A Tempo Traveler with 23 passengers fell into the Alaknanda river while passing through a mountain road in Uttarakhand, India. On Saturday morning, 14 passengers lost their lives and many others were injured in this accident in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag.

Manikant Mishra, Commandant of the state’s Disaster Response Force, said that the Tempo Traveler was traveling along the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway this morning. At that time the passengers were going from Ghaziabad to Chopta in that car. Around 11:30 am, the accident happened while taking a turn on the mountain road near Rudraprayag town. It is believed that the driver lost control. As a result, the car fell down the mountain and fell into the Alaknanda river.

Local administration staff and members of the State Disaster Response Force rushed to the spot after receiving the information. The injured were rescued and admitted to a local hospital. The condition of four of them is critical. They have been admitted to Rishikesh AMIS Medical College and Hospital.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkarsingh Dhami expressed grief over the incident. He ordered an inquiry into the incident. On his official X (former Twitter) handle, Dhami wrote, ‘Praying to God to rest the souls of the dead at his feet. Give strength to the families of the deceased to bear this suffering. I am praying to Baba Kedar for speedy recovery of the injured.
