Terror attacks in Pakistan, what the Pentagon told the Taliban government

The Pentagon has called on the Taliban government to ensure that no terrorist attacks are carried out from the territory of Afghanistan.

In the wake of attacks on security personnel in Pakistan, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller made the call at a press briefing on Tuesday local time.

Seven people, including two security personnel, children and five civilians, were killed in a terrorist attack in Pakistan’s Dera Ismail Khan on Monday night. When asked to comment on this, Miller said, “We have been calling on the Taliban government to prevent any terrorist attacks from Afghan soil.”

Earlier, Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said two security personnel were killed in an hour-long exchange of fire with the terrorists and that the terrorists had launched the attack from a safe haven in Afghanistan. They staged a cowardly attack on the Rural Health Center (RHC) located at Kiri Shamozai in Dera Ismail Khan district on the intervening night of July 15 and 16 and fired indiscriminately on the RHC staff.

In this regard, the Pentagon spokesperson said that the Pakistani people have suffered a lot in this attack by violent extremists and terrorists. “We have a shared interest with the Pakistani people and the government of Pakistan in addressing threats to regional security,” Miller said. That is why the US government has been prioritizing this issue.

It is pertinent to mention here that this was the second terrorist attack in the last 24 hours. Because in the early hours of July 15, 8 soldiers were killed while thwarting the infiltration of a terrorist group in Pakistan’s Bannu cantonment.

According to ISPR data, 10 terrorists trying to enter the cantonment were killed when an explosive-laden vehicle crashed into the cantonment wall, foiling their attack.

The attacks came at a time when Islamabad has been repeatedly calling on the Taliban administration in Kabul to ensure that banned organizations cannot use its territory for terror attacks in Pakistan.

According to the annual security report by CRSS, a security studies firm, Pakistan has witnessed 240 incidents of terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism operations in the past three months, killing 380 civilians, security personnel and outsiders, and injuring 220.

The report also stated that 236 of the dead were civilians and members of the security forces.
