The President's daughter is an unopposed Member of Parliament

Daughter Asifa Bhutto Zardari was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) unopposed in Shaheed Benazirabad-1 constituency (NA-207) vacated by father Asif Ali Zardari. He was a candidate of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). Asif Ali Zardari vacated this seat after being elected as the President of Pakistan. Asifa, the youngest daughter of Benazir Bhutta and Zardari couple, is the legislator of Pakistan from there.

On Friday (March 29), the Election Commission of Pakistan declared 31-year-old Asifa the ultimate winner in the by-election for this seat.

It is known that a total of 11 candidates submitted their nomination papers in the by-election. The nomination papers of seven of them were cancelled. Three other candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers. Therefore, Asifa became the Member of Parliament unopposed.

On 30 November 2020, Asifa participated in the PPP political rally for the first time. Besides, he was present in the campaign activities of the party before the election on February 8 this year.

Asifa supported elder brother Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in possible talks to form a coalition government in Pakistan after the elections. After Asif Ali Zardari became president, he came to the discussion again.

Asifa came into the discussion again after Asif Ali Zardari became president. He was by his father’s side during the swearing-in ceremony. There are rumors that Asifa is going to be the next first lady of Pakistan. Later the related announcement also came.

The wife of the president usually holds the position of first lady. But Zardari’s wife and former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto is not alive. He was shot dead in a rally in 2007. Zardari did not marry after that. Therefore, Asifa is performing the duties of the first lady by the father’s side in the absence of the mother.
