The sixth phase of voting is underway in India

Polling for the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections in India has begun. 58 constituencies are polled in 7 states and 1 union territory, but additional attention is on Delhi, West Bengal. The fate of 889 candidates will be decided.

The country’s 18th Lok Sabha elections started in seven phases from April 19. Voting for the sixth phase began on Saturday (May 25) at 7 am local time in India; Which will continue till 6 pm.

This phase of polling is in Delhi, Haryana, Bihar, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir and West Bengal. But the eyes of the countrymen will be on Delhi and West Bengal. Polling is going on in 7 Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi today.

A total of 889 candidates including Manoj Tewari, Manohar Hooda, Kanaya Kumar, former Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay, actor Dev and actress June Mallya will decide their fate in this phase.

Polling for 486 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats will be completed in the sixth phase. The last round of voting will be held on June 1 in 57 parliamentary constituencies.

Meanwhile, section 144 has been issued for 2 consecutive months in several areas of Kolkata, West Bengal, India. During this time, no meetings and processions can be held in the respective areas. Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal issued this unprecedented directive on Friday (May 24).

These guidelines will be in force from May 28 to July 26. According to the directive, Section 144 will be in force from KC Das Crossing towards Victoria House and its surrounding areas except Bentinck Street under Boubazar Police Station, Hare Street Police Station and Kolkata Traffic Guard Headquarters.

According to the instructions, no more than five people can gather anywhere in the concerned area. According to Kolkata Police sources, there is a fear of unrest before and after the polls in the respective areas. That is why this step has been taken as an advance warning.
