Jhenaidah-4 Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Anwarul Azim Anar has been murdered due to three types of disputes – political, business and ideological. Anar had a business dispute with Aktaruzzaman Shaheen, the mastermind of the murder.
There was a political conflict with the extremist leader Shimul Bhuiyan alias Amanulla, who directly led the killing mission, and Saidul Karim Mintu, general secretary of Jhenaidah district Awami League, who provided money to the killers. Anar’s opposing factions unite on a mission to remove him from the world. Annar was their target for a long time. But the enemy side could not get the very clever Anar. As a result, he was waiting for the bush to get angry. MP Anna’s murder plan is arranged as if ‘snake dies, stick does not break’. As part of this plan, the killers lured Anar to India. Later, from killing him to dismembering the body, the mission was completed in the cutout method.
The three opposing parties worked together behind this well-planned murder. The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (DB) Police has received such information so far in the interrogation of the arrested accused in Anna’s murder case. Assistant Commissioner (AC) Mahfuzur Rahman, the investigating officer of the case, DB Wari Division, mentioned these three disputes behind the murder of the accused in the remand petition in the court.
Related sources say that the arrested extremist leader Shimul said on remand that he is a top leader of the banned East Bengal Communist Party (ML). He used to manage the activities of the party in the south-eastern region including Khulna, Jhenaidah, Jessore. MP Anar had a long-standing conflict with his party’s ideology. Several leaders and activists of ML were killed in gunfight with the police in the area of MP Anar. Shimul alleged that Anar was the fuel behind these gunfights. On the other hand, Anar had a business dispute with Shaheen, the mastermind of the murder. Due to this, Shaheen had been planning to kill Anar for a long time. And in local politics, Awami League General Secretary Mintur was the thorn in Anar’s path. As a result, Mintu promised to pay two crore rupees to the killers to kill Anar. These facts have emerged in the confessions of extremist leader Shimul and Jhenaidah district Awami League relief and social welfare affairs secretary Kazi Kamal Ahmed alias Gas Babu who was arrested in Anna’s murder. They admitted the responsibility of the murder in the court and mentioned the reason behind the murder of Anna in the statement given under section 164.
After Mintu’s arrest, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Detective) Mohammad Harun Or Rashid told a press conference at his office that Mintu had a political dispute with Anar. Mintu wanted to become an MP in Jhenaidah-4 constituency. As a result, he budgeted two crore rupees to finish Anna’s killing mission. Khuni entrusted Mintu’s close aide Kazi Kamal Ahmed aka Gas Babu with the entire job, starting from the hire.
Meanwhile, the investigation team of DB has confirmed the involvement of 10 people in Anna’s murder so far. Five of them were arrested by Bangladesh and two by Indian police. The remaining three are still at large. The main mastermind of the murder, Aktaruzzaman Shaheen, is in the United States. A written request has already been made for the help of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) in arresting him.
According to a police source, Interpol has not yet responded to the police request. Besides, two other accused Mustafiz and Faisal entered Bangladesh legally after the assassination mission and are hiding. DB is conducting continuous operations to arrest them.
MP Anar’s daughter Doreen and brother Enamul Haque Iman are going to India to give DNA samples on the call of CID of India. On Thursday, the CID of India called Doreen and told her to go to India. Besides, CID of India has also informed the investigation officer of DB about the matter. However, the MP’s relatives have also sought the assistance of the DB’s probe into his departure to India. As a result, DB has taken a policy decision to go to India along with Anar’s relatives. The investigation officer of Anna’s kidnapping case is also supposed to be in the DB team. DB is waiting for JIO (Government Order).
DB’s investigation officials have expressed their inability to give any statement on this matter. However, MP Anar’s personal assistant Abdur Rauf said that the DB officials said that they will go to India with us only on Sunday. He also said that three people got visas on behalf of their relatives. They are ready to go to India.
It may be noted that MP Annar went to India on May 12. The next day on May 13, he was murdered in a flat in Sanjeeva Gardens, Newtown area of Kolkata. The incident came to light on May 22. On that day, Anar’s daughter Doreen filed a case of kidnapping against the unknown accused at Sherbangla Nagar police station in the capital. Besides, there is a murder case in India. The law and order forces of the two countries have arrested seven people for their involvement in the murder. They are Shimul Bhuiyan, Tanvir, Celesti, Babu and Mintu arrested in Bangladesh. Siam and Kasai Zahid are arrested in India. In addition, the names of three others who are not directly involved in the murder have been named. They are Chelsea Cherry aka Aria, Taj Mohammad Khan and Jamal Hussain. However, DB suspects that they can be used with financial transactions. DB has already taken permission from the court to examine the bank statements of 10 people including Tara. DB sources say that an application will be made to Bangladesh Bank soon after seeking information about them.
