US Affirms Arunachal Pradesh as Integral Part of India Amidst Ongoing Border Tensions
Md Lotfar Rahman Azad, Senior Reporter:
In a significant diplomatic move, the United States has publicly recognized Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India, further solidifying its stance amidst the longstanding territorial disputes between India and China. The announcement, made by a spokesperson from the US State Department during a press conference on Wednesday, underscores Washington’s support for India’s sovereignty over the region.
Arunachal Pradesh, nestled amidst the majestic Himalayan range, has been a contentious area between India and China for decades. While India asserts its rightful claim over the state, China has persistently contested this, labeling it as part of South Tibet. However, the latest affirmation from the US reaffirms India’s position and opposes any unauthorized incursions into the region.
The strategic significance of Arunachal Pradesh cannot be overstated. Situated between the Tibet Autonomous Region of China and India, the region has witnessed sporadic conflicts and border skirmishes over the years. The recent clashes in 2020, which resulted in casualties on both sides, serve as a stark reminder of the volatility in the region.
Despite past confrontations, both India and China have refrained from further hostilities since 2020, instead opting for diplomatic channels to address their differences. However, the underlying tensions persist, with both nations maintaining a significant military presence along the Arunachal-Tibet border.
For India, the US acknowledgment of Arunachal Pradesh as part of its territory comes as a diplomatic victory, bolstering its position on the international stage. It reinforces the principle of territorial integrity and underscores the importance of respecting sovereign boundaries in the face of geopolitical tensions. As the region continues to navigate complex geopolitical dynamics, this reaffirmation by the United States serves as a beacon of support for India’s territorial sovereignty.
