What is Sheikh Hasina's 'future plan'? What India said

Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister on August 5 and left for India. He is staying there for the last three days. However, it is said that people who came with Sheikh Hasina have started leaving India one by one.

What is Sheikh Hasina’s future plan in this situation? India’s Ministry of External Affairs has said that there is no update on this yet.

Spokesperson of the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Randhir Jaisyal, told reporters on Thursday.

Asked when Sheikh Hasina will leave India, the spokesperson said, she has taken refuge in India after resigning in the face of violent protests against Sheikh Hasina’s rule. But “we have no update on his future plans…”.

Randhir Jaisyal also said that the Indian government continues to monitor all issues and hopes for a quick end to the crisis in Bangladesh.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs also said that the situation in Bangladesh is now developing.

Sheikh Hasina resigned on the morning of August 5 and fled to India. He left Dhaka a few hours before the agitators took over his official residence that day. He was taken to an air base in Uttar Pradesh, India by a military aircraft.

Meanwhile, citing a source in the Indian government, India Today reported on Thursday that Sheikh Hasina’s travel companions have started leaving India one by one. Their next destination is still unclear. It is not known whether he is going back to Bangladesh or not.

It is not yet clear where Sheikh Hasina will go from India. Her son Sajib Wazed Joy said that mother will not return to Bangladesh. It is heard that Hasina wants to go to London. But the British government has not yet given the green signal.

Meanwhile, Hasina’s son Sajib Wazed Joy told NDTV on Wednesday night that his mother has not made a formal request for political asylum in any country, including India.

Joy is currently based in Washington DC, USA. Sheikh Hasina’s visit there is not getting much response. Because, there are also reports that the US has canceled Hasina’s US visa.

On the other hand, Sheikh Hasina’s sister Sheikh Rehana, with whom she left Bangladesh. Rehana, however, is a UK citizen and her daughter Tulip Siddiqui is currently an MP for the ruling Labor Party.

On the other hand, Sheikh Hasina’s daughter Saima Wazed Putul is currently a senior official at the Delhi-based World Health Organization. However, from one of his Twitter posts, it is revealed that he could not meet his mother even after four days after fleeing from Dhaka to India.

Meanwhile, the UK has a record of sheltering prominent political figures (who fled the country) from the subcontinent, including Pakistani leaders Pervez Musharraf and Nawaz Sharif. In that case, it is not surprising if Sheikh Hasina also takes refuge in the UK.

But an Indian spokesperson denied any such plans. Asylum seekers must “arrive in a safe country,” he said.

In that case, it is not clear what Sheikh Hasina’s next step is going to be.
