Yuri Ushakov: Islamic Emirate Set for Removal from Russia’s Terror List
Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that Islamic Emirate officials will soon be removed from Russia’s list of terrorist organizations.
Citing Ushakov, Russian media reported that efforts are already underway to delist the names of these officials from the banned group registry, signaling a potential shift in Russia’s policy toward the Islamic Emirate.
“Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov announced that the Taliban movement is expected to be removed from Russia’s list of terrorist organizations in the near future. He added that efforts toward this goal are already in progress,” the report reads.
The Islamic Emirate has welcomed Moscow’s decision, saying that this move will be beneficial for improving and expanding relations between the two countries.
Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, emphasized that the Afghan interim government is committed to engaging with other countries. He said: “Russia’s decision to remove the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan from the banned list is commendable. This decision is a significant step in developing engagement and relations. The Islamic Emirate believes in dialogue as it benefits all parties.”
Moeen Gul Samkani, a political analyst, told TOLOnews: “They [Russia] want to establish close political and economic ties with Afghanistan, as Russia is pursuing a broader strategic goal.”
Earlier, the Russian ministries of foreign affairs and justice had proposed to President Vladimir Putin the removal of the Islamic Emirate from the list of terrorist organizations.
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan became the first country to remove the names of Islamic Emirate officials from its list of terrorist organizations, followed by Kyrgyzstan taking a similar step.
