12 Indians killed, 16 missing by Ukrainian troops

Twelve Indians have lost their lives fighting for Russia at the hands of Ukrainian troops. Another 16 are missing.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced this information on Friday. It said that a total of 126 Indians had joined the Russian army against Ukraine.
Earlier this week, India said that the issue of its citizens fighting has been raised with the Russian government. On January 14, a young man from Kerala was reported to have been killed in the frontline of the war. Since then, New Delhi has been active on the issue.
Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaswal said that discussions are underway with Russia to return those who are still fighting for the army.
He said, till date, we have come to know about 126 Indians serving in the Russian army. 96 of them have already returned home. They have been released from the Russian armed forces. However, 18 Indians are still fighting. Russia has said that 16 of them are missing. On the other hand, 12 Indians have been killed in the war.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin about the issue in July last year. At that time, he requested that the Indians be “released”. Modi spoke to Putin again about the issue at the Kazan BRICS summit last October.
