Nepal-Egypt Friendship Run held in Cairo to mark Everest Day
KATHMANDU: A 5-kilometre Nepal-Egypt Friendship Run was organised in Cairo to mark Mount Everest Day and International Wellness Day, highlighting environmental sustainability and wellness. The event was jointly organised by the Embassy of Nepal in Cairo, Egypt’s Ministry of Local Development and Environment, and the Wadi Degla Protectorate under the theme “From the Himalayas to the Nile-Let’s Run for a Greener Future”.
Nepal’s Ambassador to Egypt, Sushil Kumar Lamsal, inaugurated the event alongside Dr Mohamed Youssef, head of Egypt’s Central Administration for Protected Areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Lamsal highlighted Mount Everest Day as a symbol of human determination and cooperation, while stressing the importance of holistic wellness encompassing physical, mental and environmental well-being.
He also underscored the shared impacts of climate change in Nepal and Egypt, including glacier melt and water scarcity, calling for collective global action.More than 350 participants, including diplomats, students, athletes and members of the Nepali community, took part in the run held in the Wadi Degla Protectorate, a protected desert ecosystem.
