Modi in Putin's country to increase friendship

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day state visit to Moscow at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. After about five years he went on this trip. Moreover, Modi set foot in the country for the first time after the start of Russia-Ukraine war.

Modi is scheduled to meet President Putin in the Russian capital Moscow on Monday. Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Kremlin, the official residence of the Russian president, said this at a press conference.

The Indian Prime Minister’s visit is an indication that he is sticking to his diplomatic path with Moscow despite the Western world’s efforts to isolate Russia in the international arena in the face of the war in Ukraine.

On the eve of his departure for Russia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a statement published on the website of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs that he is visiting Russia to attend the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit at the invitation of President Putin.

Pointing out that in the last 10 years India and Russia have developed very close diplomatic relations, he said, I will discuss various regional and international issues with my friend Putin. Moreover, during the visit I will have the opportunity to meet Indians living in Russia.

On the other hand, the Kremlin said that Modi’s visit to Russia is not viewed favorably by the West. In response to a question about how Western countries view Modi’s visit to Russia, the Kremlin spokesman said in an interview that the Western world is burning with jealousy. They are keeping a close eye on the tour. Their vigilance is what makes the meeting so important.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said that not only bilateral issues, but also contemporary regional and international issues will be discussed between the two leaders.

According to NDTV, Modi last visited Russia in 2019. He will go to Austria from Russia after a two-day visit. He will return to India after a day.
